Did This CTA Sabotage My Post?

Most of my Medium posts are “chosen for further distribution,” the last 9 out of 10, in fact. That’s not a brag. I bring it up only to point out it’s unusual that my last post, “What I Learned About Americans by Living in England,” published yesterday, was not curated by Medium staff. I wondered why.

Now, I’m not so much of an egomaniac (close, though) that I would find it inconceivable a post of mine would not get boosted. Not everything is curated. I get that. I’m also aware that it can sometimes take a little while for a story to be curated, but my experience has been that if my post is curated, it happens in the first few hours.

I wanted to find out if I was guilty of some Medium faux pas that might be responsible for the lapse in distribution. Had I done something different? It turned out I did.

I added a call to action (CTA for the marketing fancy-pants), a Medium referral link, this one, in fact:
