My mother, an immigrant from Argentina and now an American, proudly displays the American flag in front of her home. My sister and I have always been fascinated by Americana, but, like you, we've grown weary of this nativist, far-right fringe the coopts the flag with hate in their hearts. When I see the American flag alongside the Confederate flag, I don't see pride. I see a deliberate line in the sand that says, "This is our America. Not yours."
