This is my gripe with the major religions. I'm an atheist, but I believe that striving for understanding and meaning beyond the observable world is a natural human tendency. I'm sure early humans wondered when they looked up at the stars. It just manifests differently in different people: spirituality, religion, meditation, cosmology, etc. The danger with codified faith is that it forces people into binary, zero-sum value judgments: You're either with us or you're immoral.
