This is what I try to explain to my wife. Being a participant is just different than being an observer.

I think part of some people's resistance is the outdated stigma of games being for teenage boys: first-person shooters killing zombies and monsters. But the range and diversity of games surpasses most, if not all, other forms of art and entertainment.
