Trump Is Finally a Victim
The ultimate trump card
Following Trump’s hush-money conviction, the former president published a post on Truth Social claiming to be a “political prisoner.” He was not a prisoner nor was there any evidence that his conviction was the result of political machinations. He was simply doing what he always does when things don’t go his way: He was playing the victim. Imagine what he’ll say now that he’s actually a victim.
A history of victimhood
Trump has long positioned himself as a victim. He didn’t lose the election. It was stolen from him. He wasn’t guilty of a crime. The Democrats mobilized a lynch mob against him.
Everything is “rigged”
He called the election “rigged.” He called the hush-money trial “rigged.” It’s a word he invokes when he suffers a defeat. He must be the unluckiest, most persecuted billionaire in the world, an outsider targeted for attempting to tear down a corrupt political system, if you’re to believe his version of events.
In truth, he’s not an outsider railing against the establishment. He is the establishment. He’s a billionaire with outsize political influence, using his considerable leverage for personal again with no compunction.
