Weeks before my sister married her first husband, she told me, standing in front of the driveway of my childhood home (I was 16; she was 26), that she knew it wouldn't work. I was thunderstruck. Why was she going through with it??!! She was 26 (gasp!) and didn't want to disappoint our mother. A tumultuous few years later, their marriage was over. We force ourselves into these boxes, and it makes us miserable.
